I played around with crocodile stitch yesterday and I am in love. There are so many possibilities for this stitch. It has such a great look and texture. I also set up a cork board where I can pin pictures, color palettes, illustrations, swatches, and other inspiring bits and pieces. I'm pretty sure I already need a bigger one! At some point this year I hope to finally set up a small, creative workspace where I can work and dream. Even if it is just a tiny corner of a room, I'll take it!
This part of the process is definitely my favorite. Trying new things, making adjustments, and trying again until something great comes together.
How do you stay inspired with your craft? Do you have an inspiration board too or do you mainly use Pinterest?

The wool here is such a lovely colour! I use a corkboard for all of my inspirational tear-outs and patterns and pictures. It makes me smile every day when I see it.

I agree! Pinterest can be overwhelming sometimes. A cork board is great for focused ideas!

Oooh..what a gorgeous swatch!! :) I'm gonna have to look this stitch up! I started a similar board right above my desk(s), and it has crochet & knit stuff all over it, and vintage needlepoints...all kinds of stuff! It expand beyond and now things are just tacked to the wall, and it's lovely. :) I can't wait to see how yours grows!

ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I kept all my inspiration in one spot! The cleaning out of my cupboards in the last few weeks is revealing to me just how haphazard I am with this... folders full of cut out bits and pieces, random sketchbooks and graph charts, Pinterest, Evernote, you name it, I use it!

ReplyDeleteThat crocodile stitch makes me think of an owl...like the feathers on it's belly. I love your inspiration board! I wish I had a real inspiration board, but I just don't know where I'd put it. So I use Pinterest mostly, and occasionally a notebook or folder.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely not a pinterest girl. I have to touch things. My pin boards didn't make the cut when moving house nearly a decade ago. I had 2 panels, each 4 feet x 4 feet. Your board and fresh ideas make me think it is time to replace my panels. The piles and folders and boxes and bags of inspiration just aren't working for me.

ReplyDeleteI love your board!!! Did you draw all those things? I especially like the granny squares and what I assume are stockings. I have a board full of things I like to look at and inspire me in different ways, but I need to put more creative things on there!
ReplyDeleteYour board is gorgeous! I think a real mood board instead of Pinterest is much nicer, you can't get better than touchy feely textures and vibrant colours and the way the light catches the textures than in real life.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I really like your inspiration board and that stitch is just too cool. I think making a special area for crafting can be really great! I'm working on clearing out our guest bedroom so I can make a little sewing corner. It helps when all of your supplies and creative things are in one place, I think.

ReplyDeleteYears ago, at a very low time in my life, I went through my huge collection of magazines to cull them. I pulled out every image that appealed to me, whether it was people, houses, clothes, interiors or just inspirational photographs. I ended up buying 5 cheap corkboards and pinned all my cutouts onto them, making myself a series of collages.
ReplyDeleteFor many many months, I worked at my desk with these 5 corkboards all propped and balanced around me. It had been interesting to see what crystalised out of the pictures I had chosen and what it showed in my real aims and goals.
Within a couple of years, things really turned round for the better and I achieved a lot of things I'd been wanting for myself and not even properly realising it. These subtle constant reminders had an amazing result and today I lead a life far better than any magazine cutouts, with all the important things (to me!) in place.
At some point, the corkboards lost their relevance as I grew far above them, and I had no trouble discarding the boards and the pictures :)
